The 2 main causes of Achilles problems

Do you have a stubborn Achilles that stopping you being active?

Do you wish that you could just be active without pain?

Achilles tendonitis problems are extremely common. At Alternative Foot Solutions we see them on a daily basis, we see the toll that they have on people and we can help you successfully navigate and treat this problem without having to give up exercise. If you’re getting Achilles issues or Achilles pain make sure you check this out, so that you don’t go and rupture your Achilles tendon.

Treating Achilles Pain

Achilles issues can cause significant pain, stop you exercising indefinitely and possibly lead to surgery and even lead to an Achilles rupture. A rupture can require at least 2-3 years of rehabilitation to get back to where you were previously, and sometimes you’ll never get to where you were once.

The good news is that we understand that the Achilles tendonitis affects you significantly and affects the way you feel and the way you exercise. The great news is that we see this all the time and we can treat it in a manner that means you don’t have to give up exercise while you are receiving treatment. You can keep running, moving and doing the things you love and we can keep you active while we treat the underlying causes.

Causes of Achilles Pain

There are two common causes of Achilles pain.

1. Tight muscles

We know most of us have tight muscles from a whole range of different things. Your calf muscle is the second strongest muscle in your body and pulls through the Achilles tendon, your calf muscle is also very prone to tightening up because of daily activity. The difficulty is that your calf muscle attaches into your Achilles and sometimes simply stretching out your calf muscle can irritate the Achilles further.

That’s why you need a professional to effectively diagnose the stage of Achilles tendonitis you are at and provide guidance to prevent further injury.

2. Misalignment through your foot and ankle.

The level of misalignment through your foot and ankle causes compensation in the way you stand, the way you walk and the way you run. This increased compensation causes increased flare up through the Achilles tendon. As a result, this causes an increased inflammatory response through the tendon which then causes minor micro tears, leading to larger tears, and this is where you get Achilles tendonitis or other common Achilles problems.

The great news is, is that when we treat any heel pain condition, including Achilles tendonitis, we treat the underlying cause so we actually treat the way you stand and the way you walk and the way you run and we can do it without orthotics, without having to change your shoes and without having to change your activity so you can keep doing the things that you love.

The key here is to get onto an Achilles problem as soon as possible. So what we recommend is;

  1. Assess the problem
  2. We diagnose the issue and the underlying cause
  3. We send you off for further examinations if needed
  4. We come up with a plan that fixes the pain and fixes the underlying cause without you having to give up the activities and the things that you love
